Olympic Medal Count Monday, February 17th, 2014

A great weekend again at the Olympic games in Sochi for Canadian athletes.  We not have 4 gold, 6 silver and 4 bronze with more medals anticipated today.

Our local athlete Denny Morrison, who earned a silver in the 1000 metres, skated to a bronze medal  in the 1500 meter race.  He still has the team pursuit left to race.   Denny is looking towards training for the 2018 Winter Olympics with his team mate Gilmore Junio . These two athletes has shown tremendous team spirit.

We are also so proud of Patrick Chan who received the silver medal in men’s figure skating.  Congratulations to Patrick Chan for showing us that figure skating is a tremendous showcase for athleticism.For those who enjoy snowboarding, a congratulations to Dominique Mattais wor winning s silver medal in the snowboard cross event.

Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir will compete in the dance freeskate this morning. They are currently in second place.  They won the 2010 Gold medal and have stated that they just want to have an excellent skate today and make Canada proud. They have a great interview and a wonderful short program.  Stay tuned for the freeskate  program today!  They are challenging Meryl Davis and Charlie White from the USA for the gold medal.  UPDATE:  Canadian Dance Free Skate team Tessav Virtue and Scott Moir win a silver medal !

Today’s events include: ladies curling, long program in ice dancing and hockey.  Our great athletes are demonstrating true sport and Canadianism.
