Sochi Olympic 2014 February 6th, 2014

22 hours and counting until the official start of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.  Students have been bringing in many facts that they are learning and sharing these facts with the office.  Some of the facts the students have learned are:

1) The roof of the Fisht Stadium is covered inmore than 30, 000 LED lights that light up in different colours at night.

2) The 2018 Winter Olympics will be held in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

3) The first winter Olympics were held in 1924 in Chamonix, France.

4) Sochi is the warmest city to host a Winter Olympics games. It is also the longest city.

5) Denny Morrison was born in Chetwynd and went to school in Fort St John.

6) Exhibition events and qualifying rounds have started.

7) Figure Skating is having a team event this year.  It started today.  The Canadian Figure Skating Team is the largest team of any country with 17 athletes.

8) Canada has sent 221 athletes to the Sochi Winter Olympics.  Many of these athletes competed in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.
